There has been a lot of discussion amidst Governor Whitmer’s “stay-at-home” order about the topic of essential workers and non-essential workers. I think in one sense, we all like to think that our jobs are essential! But what are the essentials we need spiritually in our relationship with God during this time of national emergency and crisis?
-
PEACE – both peace with God and the peace of God – Isaiah 26:3, 4
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds
are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the
Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord Himself is the Rock
Eternal”.
-
PRAYER – Salat is the obligatory Muslim prayer to Allah, performed 5 times each day by
Muslims in the religion of Islam. An essential in our relationship
with God is prayer. We need to pray for our leaders, our church, the
sick and open doors for the gospel.
-
PRAISE – Our natural bent is towards complaining (just spend a little time on
social media). God calls us to be grateful – Hebrews 13:15
“Through Jesus, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of
praise, the fruit of lips that confess His name”.
An attitude of gratitude is key to our spiritual, mental and emotional
wellbeing.
Let us practice the three essentials of peace, prayer and praise.
